WORK HISTORY
SAINT PAUL PARKS AND RECREATION, St. Paul,
MN
Arts and Gardens Program Coordinator, January 2003 -present
Develop and manage citywide horticulture program to maintain over 131
garden sites and 600 hanging baskets. Includes developing and overseeing
$300,000 budget, hiring and managing 60 horticulture staff, purchasing
materials, coordination of support groups and marketing. Work with several
city departments and over 30 community groups to implement plantings.
Develop and manage public art collection. Work with city departments,
conservators and community groups to develop public arts policy and procedures
for implementation and maintenance. Responsibilities include; budget,
assessment and maintenance reports, maintenance schedules, public art
proposal process, public art review panel, community support, web tour
of collection and publicity. Support arts programming at 41 recreation
centers throughout Saint Paul, through; program consultation, resource
development, documentation, arts program reporting, developing partnerships,
identifying new funding opportunities, marketing and public exhibit opportunities.
COMO PARK ZOO AND CONSERVATORY EDUCATION, St. Paul, MN
Resident Artist/Arts Program Manager, 1994 - 2003
Develop and manage arts and environmental education opportunities for
adults and children including: Botanical Arts Certification Program, weekly
gardening courses, lecture series, community art classes, after school
arts programs for junior and senior high students, an arts partnership
with Como Elementary School, Summer Camps, Birthday Party Program and
the Summer Environmental Arts Youth Volunteer Program.
Establish and curate the Arts Exhibition space (3,750 sq.ft.) in Gallery
Garden at Como Park Conservatory; facilitate exhibition panel.
Developed annual education budget of $250,000. Control an annual program
budget of $40,000. Developed class registration system, website, and mailing
database; direct publicity efforts, including media relations, press releases
and media database. Researched and wrote Education Department policy,
as well as Community Gardening and Public Art policy for the division
of Parks and Recreation.
Train and manage interns, develop overall goals and objectives for Education
Department, write and develop curriculum. Designed newly acquired classroom
space. Research, write and submit grants, securing over $500,000 in funding.
Interview, hire and evaluate staff.
