Saint Paul Public Art Collection For
the last six years Mark Granlund has been the Public
Art Coordinator for the City of Saint Paul Department of Parks and Recreation.
In that capacity he has been charged with overseeing the maintenance of the collection
of sixty public art sculptures owned by the City of Saint Paul. In
2007 he established a city-wide public art maintenance program for all city departments.
Mark
works annually with a conservator to survey all of the works in the collection
and create reports that prioritize the maintenance needs. He oversees a small
annual budget for maintenance. In
July of 2009, the Saint Paul City Council passed Public Art Policy for projects
funded with capital improvement dollars. Mark was an important member on the panel
that wrote the policy which will result in 1% of construction costs on capital
improvement projects set aside for artwork and .5% of the capital improvement
maintenance budget to provide maintenance costs for the existing collection. Mark
has also written mural policy and public art proposal guidelines for the Saint
Paul Department of Parks and Recreation. Mark
routinely works with recreation centers, artists, non-profits and community members
on the coordination of public art projects throughout the city. Go
