These online art classes are taught by artist Mark Granlund who has over twenty years of art teaching experience. These are interactive classes that involve real-time interaction, demonstrations, real-time interaction, and knowledgable helpful critique.

Why you should take these courses?

- If you want to learn art
- If you have transportation issues or concerns
- If you do not have a class offered near you
- If your schedule doesn't allow taking an on-site class
- If you just don't like going out on a cold night in January (like me)

These classes make registration, sharing your work and interacting with other students and the instructor easy.

Classes include video demonstrations, history and background reading material, quizzes, examples, a Class Portfolio, a class chat room, a class blog, and critique sessions.

Students can begin courses anytime. Courses are written as 5 week classes but students may take as long as they need. Once registered in a class, students can always ask for critique of their assignments, no matter how long it takes them to complete.

Many people know me for my botanical art. These classes are basic drawing classes that are applicable to botanical as well as other genre of art. Most of the examples and demonstrations in these classes are botanical in nature. Once more advanced classes are developed, a separate series of botanical classes will be developed.

COMING THIS WINTER:

DRAWING - LIGHT, SHADOW AND TEXTURE

Student Comments:

"...a very satisfying experience and had worked well because of the amount of care you had put into designing the course to be effective via online delivery. From my observation in my own profession I know that moving into online instruction is often NOT successful. This was very effective. The mixture of media in which it was delivered (video, websites, written instruction, examples) and the very focused units, explicit exercises, feedback, and use of Picasa were very well thought out and executed. So - A+ to you for delivering a great experience! I would recommend it without hesitation to anyone as an effective way to learn from a wonderful teacher. Thanks!"
- Ruth Solie, online student

"It was a nice journey for me all in all. I have a new bench mark for the way I draw."
- Alyce Hall, online student

We found Mark to be an extraordinary teacher last year! He welcomes both those seeking to learn the basics of painting watercolor outdoors, as well as those who have years of experience."
- Mary Swalla Holmes, Executive Director, Oberholtzer Foundation

"Most importantly, Mark has taught me specific techniques to improve my artwork, while encouraging me to develop and understand my own style. I've been able to apply these techniques in other forms of art, as well. Because of his class, I have a stronger appreciation for botanical art, and have more confidence in my own work."
- Emily Metcalf, student
